Tips

We see hundreds of resumes and some of the most common mistakes we come across are:
- addressing cover letters to the wrong agency and person (and BANG there goes your credibility on “attention to detail”!)
- including in cover letters a wish to “work in your company”, rather than our Clients’ company, remembering that we are recruiters
working on behalf of a Client and we need to be sure candidates are aware of that.
- forgetting to include an email address on the resume
- listing ‘eye for detail’ as a capability, yet having mistakes and inconsistencies in the formatting of the resume.

Cover letters are very important. But don’t spend too much time on saying how your skills will benefit the Company to which you are applying as you have yet to hear details about the role. Rather have your letter concentrate on why you would like to apply for the role and what about the role appeals to you.
Ensure your spelling and grammar is correct in these letters as they are the first impression your recruiter/employer will have of you.

Research is an important tool. If you attend an interview having researched the Company first you will start in a strong position. Not only will you be able to make your answers to the interview questions relevant but also you will be demonstrating initiative and enthusiasm.
